c1830-40's CUSTOM made cabinet lawyer's bookcase 9'long
The cabinet was in the estate of a 19th century attorney in Cooperstown NY - the thought is that he used it in the office of his home - the cabinet has a super clean look, inside & out. The 12 individual cabinets are lined in early 19th century plum/purple lining! The base cabinet is 105" long x 34.75" high and 24.5" high. There are twelve individual glass cabinets (48 total panes - 8 x 10" panes of glass) - the cabinets individually measure 35" long x 12.75" high x 10.75" deep! The fine craftsmanship on this cabinet is stunning - it is such a beautiful piece. The base cabinet has four turned legs on the corners and a recessed set of legs in the center to provide some support - it has a wonderful purplish brown finish - wonderful finish with nice grazing equally throughout! - where the cabinets in the back stack - the piece has a different tone on the top of the cabinet - showing either a different tone in the color due to coverage or possibly it was not painted over! On the base piece, there are 10 drawers & one door (on the left) - all the draws have the finest detailed dovetail design - it is a true work of art looking at the detail on these. There are rose headed square nails throughout! Most of the drawers are lined with a recent linen - all original knobs! The 12 glass cabinets have dovetail design, square nail construction as well as wooden peg design. Most amazing of all is the VERY early wavy glass - the glass used on nearly every one of the 48 panes is the very early, almost 18th century style glass - those wonderful imperfections & bubbles that are sought after! - it gives the piece an over the top look! This could easily function as a single unit as shown in the photos - or POSSIBLY have a kitchen (even house) built around it - using the base cabinet as an island & the cabinets built on the wall horizontal or vertically as cabinetry. There is a LOT of potential here!
